What if you could change your metabolism to act like that of someone who is naturally thin? Now you can. Introducing the hot new HCG diet! HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is a natural hormone produced by the body when a woman is pregnant. When HCG is present, it mobilizes the body to pull nutrients from the abnormal fat stores (instead of protein) to support the growing fetus. By combining this hormone with a low calorie diet, one can experience dramatic weight loss. Women and men often report losing one to two pounds a day!!

What about the fatigue and hunger pains associated with traditional diets? When you starve the body of calories, the body responds by doing whatever it can to SAVE calories. It slows metabolism and burns muscle protein for fuel. On the HCG diet the body is signaled by the hypothalamus to start burning fat stores, instead of protein. With fat calories in the bloodstream, the appetite center of the brain is no longer stimulated. Significant weight loss can now occur. After 8 weeks on the HCG weight loss plan, the metabolism becomes “re-trained”. With a decrease in cravings and appetite, the patient returns to a less restrictive calorie plan. Eating habits are more healthy!

The HCG diet is recommended for individuals who need to lose 15-90 lbs. It is not for those who wish to only lose a few pounds. Dr. Kevin Light, D.O., at the Texas Institute of Functional Medicine and Medical Director of SkinSpaMed is now offering this remarkable diet. Participants are guided and monitored through four phases of the program. Blood work, vitamin shots and supplements are used to analyze and support the body during the weight loss stages. For a free consultation, contact Dr. Light and tell him Caroline at WellBoutique sent you!

It’s 80 degrees in DFW, which means we are all going to blink and it will suddenly be 100. Translation: we have what seems like milliseconds to get swimsuit wearable. Let the diet and exercise obsession begin! Right?!? No. Wait. Hit the pause button and breathe. I’ve found the answer: YOGA. Seriously, I have found yoga to be the BEST way to see big results in little time. Thanks to my friend, Ashtanga, I was able to get back to my pre-baby shape in just a few weeks.

My first yoga class was a bit like baptism by fire (or, at least, by a REALLY hot room). Not realizing there are many types of yoga, I showed up to a “power” yoga class expecting stretching, meditation, chanting and ultimately, relaxation. I was sweating before the first sun salutation…thinking, “Where is the zen??” As a former ballet dancer, I was humbled by my lack of flexibility and balance. My downward dog was really down and out (lying on a sticky mat lifeless, really). I persisted for two weeks, unwilling to be defeated. Suddenly…out of the fog of all that sweat induced humidity, I saw glimpses of the old, leaner me! In fact, I was seeing muscles and stamina I hadn’t seen since High School! It was official: I was hooked on the ‘flow”.

If you desire a hot yogi body but aren’t sure where to begin…Lululemon is a great place to start. Lululemon is a fabulous store that sells yoga-inspired attire. Not only do I love this store, but their online community is a great source of yoga information. Check out Lululemon’s ”Yoga 101″ for beginners:

http://www.lululemon.com/education/yoga

What’s even better? Lululemon offers FREE yoga classes in their in-store studios! Dallasites can enjoy a Saturday morning yoga class in the courtyard at North Park Center (9 am). The Galleria store offers free yoga on Tuesday evenings at 6 pm. Coming soon, a Fort Worth store!!

My love of yoga comes from not just the quick results, but the way it makes me feel inside. I feel both exhilaration and inner peace all at once. Give yoga a try and you will be ready for the Texas heat in no time!

( Tip: To get bikini -ready results in little time, you will want to sign up for Ashtanga, aka…power, vinyasa flow, or hot yoga.)

Question: Did yoga make-over your body? I want to hear from you!

My dear friends,

No matter what side you are on in the Obama Health Care debate. Here is what I know for sure…and so should you. The state of your health is not going to be determined by your health care. Your health is up to YOU. Don’t expect some doctor to fix you, fix yourself! Doctors are NOT God. They don’t know everything. Nor, do they know what your body (and spirit) are capable of achieving. Right now, more than ever, health and wellness solutions are at your fingertips. Find out the source of your ailments. Don’t just let someone put a band-aid on it! Do your homework! Embrace new concepts and ideas, even if it isn’t mainstream. Take responsibility and make it your #1 priority. No more excuses!!!!

Be enlightened. Be inspired. Then…BE WELL!!!!!

Itching, sneezing, watery eyes? It must be spring in Texas! A recent news report issued a warning: DFW is seeing one of the worst allergy seasons to date. As a life long allergy and asthma sufferer, I will agree. People are sneezing, coughing and sniffeling all around me. (Sneezing waitress, anyone?)

As a health conscious individual, I have never been inclined to sign up for weekly allergy shots. Not to mention, who has the time? So, I have always kept one ear to the ground on the many ways to combat this most annoying ailment. Alas, a pesky bee problem in our backyard led me to the Texas Bee Charmer and her miracle honey.

Did you know that taking several teaspoons full of local honey a day can be as effective as undergoing a series of allergy injections? Seriously, sweet news. Honeybees spend their time collecting pollen from local flowers. So, their honey contains little bits of this pollen. When taken orally, this pollen actually boosts our immune system and helps make us “immune” to those allergens. So, be sure you purchase local honey which is made from bees in your area. In addition, “raw honey” is even better because it hasn’t been processed by heat or strained. Rather, it has come straight from the hive.

The Texas Bee Charmer is a third generation bee keeper in Wylie, Texas. She came to my rescue when we discovered a hive in a hollowed tree in our backyard. For fear of our son being stung, she came and peacefully relocated the bees to a new hive. (In the process, she gave me an important tip regarding bees: Don’t swat them when they land on you, or they will sting! Instead, hold perfectly still and they will understand you are not food and fly away.)

Dating back to the time of the Greeks, the benefits of honey are really un-BEE-lievable (I couldn’t resist). Here are some of the health benefits:

Boost energy in a healthy way (forget caffeine!)

Treats “morning sickness” in pregnant women, believed to be more effective than crackers

Eases a sore throat

Can be used to treat eczema, and to moisturize the skin (combine with olive oil and it makes a great hair conditioner)

Combined with lemon, aids in weight loss by helping the body convert fat to energy

Treats upset stomachs

Natural antiseptic for cuts and treats bad breath (inhibits the growth of bacteria)

Good source of antioxidants

Contains 40% less calories than sugar

Warning: Do not give honey to children under the age of one due to the presence of botulinum endospores, which can cause food poisoning. Their young intestines are not mature enough to break down this bacteria. Pregnant women should also speak with their doctor regarding whether or not unpastuerized, raw honey is recommended.

For safe bee removal, or to purchase Wylie honey contact Janet at the Texas Bee Charmer: (214) 695-3425 / texasbeecharmer@AOL.com

In Dallas, this honey is also sold at SkinSpaMed: (972) 392-3895

Witnessing a loved one in the unforgiving grips of cancer, at best, rattles your soul. This reality has surrounded me twice in my life, like an unavoidable storm. It was Spring Break during my freshmen year of college. I flew to Florida to help my mother burden the emotional responsibility of taking care of my maternal Aunt. My dear Aunt Mary was in her final days of breast cancer at 38 years old. She was known for her quick wit, and wild antics, which were diminishing before our eyes. The cancer took her kicking and screaming. With a second diagnosis from my mother’s oldest sister I wondered, “Was this to be my plight?” Then, I met Leilani Tejada.

Lielani has dedicated more than 25 years to researching the natural prevention of breast cancer. As many know, antioxidants have been proven to fight cancer causing free radicals. In particular, the ellagic acid and ellagitannins in berries have powerful effects on free radicals. With this knowledge, how many berries does one need to eat to ward off cancer? Well, most would need to eat bushel, upon, bushel full.

Why not take RazUp, instead? I was thrilled when Leilani introduced me to this potent antioxidant supplement. Even better, the antioxidants in RazUp can boost energy and the immune system. In fact, this past winter it saved me from becoming ill during the winter months when the “virus of the month” came knocking at the door. Personally, our family wouldn’t face another winter without it. Preventing my cancer risk, and warding off colds and flu…I love this stuff!

Ten years after meeting Leilani Tejada, the true importance of our meeting was revealed. My mother was diagnosed with stage 3 non-small cell lung cancer. The rarest of lung cancers. The “big ugly C’ had struck our family again. This time it got personal. My first instinct was to call Leilani and seek her guidance. She led me to Dr. Gonino at the Gonino Center for Healing in Rockwall, Texas. I rushed my mother to his office and she began IV treatments, including the use of sodium bicarbonate. This alternative therapy is drawing patients from all over the US to Dr. Gonino’s office. Many of these patients have been told they have only a few weeks to live. Dr. Gonino is disproving these predictions.

Through a combination of alternative and traditional treatments, my mother SURVIVED. She has been in remission for a year and a half now. I believe she couldn’t have beat it without the help of the Gonino Center for Healing. She kicked her Diet Coke habit and turned her health around. It has been a gift.

It is my belief that Dr. Gonino’s mind-body approach to the body is crucial for beating disease and illness. Dr. Gonino’s slogan is “Love Heals”. You can’t help but feel loved, nurtured and renewed when you walk through their doors. Or… perhaps it’s the long hug that he gives every patient before they leave. He cares. He believes in miracles and the power of the body to heal itself. He is connected to a higher power and prays for his patients. Dr. Gonino is changing lives. Take your loved ones to him and tell him that I sent you!

Ahh, the sun is finally shining in DFW…tis’s the season for spring cleaning! Spring is finally upon us and so is my to-do list for the cleaning and renewal of my home. Often overlooked by way too busy families, spring cleaning can literally change your life! As 19th century Americans understood, March was the time to open the windows and dust the house…allowing the wind to carry all the dust bunnies and disappointments of the past year, out to pasture (literally). Are you ready for some home renewal?

Closet Therapy

My spring cleaning begins as I purge our closets of worn out shirts and shoes. Remember that dress that hasn’t fit in 10 years? Get rid of it! Dig deep into the depths of your closet. You know that corner or shelf that hasn’t seen the light of day in decades? Take a deep breath and toss those ensembles of seasons past. Just do it! You will feel lighter and cathartic, I promise. While you are at it…drive those retired pieces to your nearest donation center. (and…why not shop for treasures while you’re there!) Think: Recycle, Reuse, Renew! Hand-wash all sweaters and store in zip lock bags. I like to tuck in herbal moth repellants that I buy at the Container Store. Better yet, take the time to make your own! Here are some great all-natural recipes for repelling moths:

http://tipnut.com/how-to-get-rid-of-moths-with-natural-repellents/

But, whatever you do…PLEASE DO NOT USE MOTH BALLS!!!! They are deadly for humans, too.

Chemical Swap

SAVE MONEY, your health, and our environment by swapping all cleaning chemicals for all-natural alternatives. It only takes three ingredients: vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda. Add a few drops of herbal oils like lavender, and create your own custom cleaners that smell divine.

Bathroom: White vinegar or lemon juice can be used to treat hard water stains in the bathroom. Mix with baking soda to form a paste and use to clean grout and tile.

Carpets: To deodorize, sprinkle baking soda on carpets and allow to sit at least one hour before vacuuming.

Walls: Marks of any kind on wallpapered and painted walls can be cleaned with baking soda and a damp sponge.

If you would rather leave it all to the professionals…call DFW’s Natural Home Maid. They use only organic products and will even organize your home! (collective sigh of relief) Tell them WellBoutique sent you… www.naturalhomemaid.com

Where has the time gone? Where did I go?? Since the launch of WellBoutique, serendipity has sent me speeding along taking one divine step after another. However, my ability to juggle being an “at home” mommy, a dutiful housewife and budding business owner gets a bit muddled. I recently found myself lost in play dates, planning and an abyss of scattered toys. When, WHAM! …the universe slapped me happily back on track. (Thank goodness.) It happened like this: I was meeting with a business referral last week about a WB event for February that focuses on heart health. I know what you’re thinking. “February is over, you missed the boat.” Well, you’re right…but apparently, the universe doesn’t care what month it is. For one reason after another (life), it took us three months to coordinate our schedules. So, here we are meeting at the end of February for a belated event. Nonetheless, I meet this wonderful woman named Debbie Slade-Smith. She is the designated local speaker for the Go Red campaign. After her mother suffered through two bouts of breast cancer, she ultimately was the victim of a heart attack. Heart attacks kill more women every year, than breast cancer. Their symptoms are often different than the proverbial chest pain that men experience. Therefore, the signs are often missed…and, fatal. For a list of these symptoms, and to find out your risk visit: www.goredforwomen.org.

Within days after our meeting, (still lost in life) I received a phone call from my best friend. One of our beloved sorority sisters suffered a heart attack at 30 years old and passed away, leaving behind a one-year-old.

GASP.

I get it.

I’m back on track.

The information contained within this site is vital. As the messenger, I will do my absolute best to bring you my most valuable insight and resources for living well. We all get “caught up” and let the current take us out to sea. Balancing it all is no small feat. But, when I look into the blue eyes of my son, so alive with wonder and belief in the promise of life…I’m thankful for the everyday opportunities I have to get caught up, then find my ground, and start running again.

Stay tuned for exciting, upcoming WellBoutique events!

Through a chance meeting (or, divine intervention) ten years ago, I was introduced to Leilani Tejada (owner of Optimal Natural Health) and the concept of natural solutions to women’s health issues. Leilani has been a pioneer in the field of natural hormones since the 80’s, leading the cause to get women off synthetics. I have witnessed the powerful (and often tearful) testimony of women who use her products. In particular, Leilani’s Bliss Cream has gained popularity and loyal followers with women across the country. I’m one of those followers.

I highly recommend Bliss Cream for the treatment of irregular and painful cycles, as well as, for balancing the body of women who are without a cycle. It has helped dear friends of mine ovulate naturally, without having to resort to clomid. I like it more than your typical OTC progesterone cream because of the addition of antioxidants. Plus, Bliss contains natural ingredients that stimulate your body to produce hormones on its own. Post-partum, Bliss helped me to get back on track in every way.

Hormones are a powerful force in one’s body. Balance them naturally and you will feel the joy of BLISS!

Do you hear that sound? It’s the sound of you zipping up those skinny jeans you thought you’d never put on again. It’s the sound of success. ..the sound of your heart smiling (and people talking!)

Seriously. Aren’t we all feeling the fatigue and bloat of holiday indulgence? Ohhh, so heavy. Oh, so slug-g-ish. Cue the frigid temps and we’re stuck…drowning in pumpkin pie and self-pity.

Ok, now take a breath! Exhale…here comes your sigh of relief. Meet MegaCleanse, your new best friend!

Why do I love thee? Let me count the ways:

MegaCleanse is not an intense 14 day cleanse where I must deprive myself of food, erst while chugging condiment spiked water until I’ve purged my insides of all wrong doing. Rather, it’s a daily supplement that gently rids my body of toxins.

MegaCleanse contains 37 herbs and super foods that cleanse all six channels of the body at one time (liver, colon, kidneys, lymphatic system, blood and skin), leaving me feeling light and energized.

MegaCleanse facilitates weight loss naturally. Here’s the straight skinny: Your liver is overwhelmed with toxins from the food we eat, drink, and the air we breathe (i.e. processed food, preservatives, alcohol, artificial sweeteners, artificial food additives, pesticides, pollution, etc…). Unable to process and assimilate food easily, our stressed livers store fat in our abdomens. Support your liver in its ability to process food efficiently and the weight loss often will follow!

MegaCleanse makes me, umm, regular. The walls of the colon are often packed with old meals. (Ok, this is totally gross…I know!) Those who suffer from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) will tell you that this is no laughing matter. MegaCleanse has saved several of my peeps from this gastro-hell. For the rest of us…it will make your system run at its best.

Alas, MegaCleanse makes me pretty. The skin is the largest organ of the body absorbing toxins from our environment, daily. Cleanse your body of toxins and your skin will show it. Fewer break-outs, and a healthy glow.

Every mother of a toddler will tell you: Toddlers are synonymous with GERMS. To them, life is a giant banquet table where they must sample every delicious bite of well, everything. So, when the inevitable malaise invades your family - how do you protect yourself, while fighting on the front lines of the battlefield? (Hint: the answer doesn’t involve breaking up with your playgroup.)

The answer is RazUp. RazUp is a potent dose of pure antioxidants. (The fighters of cancer causing free radicals.) These antioxidants boost our immune system and go to war against the enemy in our bodies.

At the first sign of imbalance (ie: sick child or husband) I take two in the morning, and two in the evening on an empty stomach for two days. IT WORKS. Thanks to RazUp I was able to look swine flu and RSV in the eye in my household, and wave “bye bye”.

Check it out in the SHOP section of wellboutique.com
